Clay is a $5B-valued, Series C-funded SaaS platform that helps organizations execute growth through data enrichment and workflow automation. The company recently crossed $100M in revenue and serves thousands of customers including Anthropic, Notion, Google, and Ramp.
The Data Platform team builds customer-facing data products and shared systems that power Clay's core offering: a live map of the working world (companies, people, jobs, and relationships). This map is continuously updated as people change jobs, companies merge, and facts evolve. The team solves the hard problem of turning fragmented, conflicting data from multiple sources into reliable information that customers can search, enrich, and use in workflows at scale.
In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will own multiple dimensions of the data platform:
**Core Responsibilities:**
- Decide what data means by evaluating sources, resolving conflicts, and modeling entities and relationships the product can trust
- Explore and build new data products, from customer problem through prototype, testing, and production launch
- Build shared foundation systems: how data lands, gets modeled and versioned, how releases are evaluated, and how data reaches customers
- Own data serving infrastructure supporting interactive search, enrichment lookups, large result sets, and change alerts with predictable performance
- Build with AI/ML models, deciding when model-based approaches beat deterministic pipelines and ensuring economic viability across millions of records
- Make quality a product decision by measuring coverage, correctness, freshness, and source traceability; build evaluation harnesses for model-based decisions
**What You Bring:**
- 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience building products customers rely on
- Product mindset: you drive and own products end-to-end, not just execute specs
- Track record leading ambiguous, cross-functional technical work from problem framing through delivery
- Empathetic communication: you express nuanced ideas clearly at different abstraction levels for different audiences
- Comfort with technical disagreement and collaborative problem-solving
**Success Metrics:**
- Customers can ask new kinds of questions and act on answers without external verification
- New data ideas become product experiences without rebuilding foundations
- Quality is measured against real customer use
- The team can evolve datasets without breaking dependent products
