Salary: USD 130,000 - 200,000 / annual
Vercel is seeking a Software Engineer for its Data Platform team to build the infrastructure that powers data across the organization. This is not a reporting or analytics role—you'll work on the platform itself: streaming systems, storage layers, and tooling that other engineers, analysts, and data scientists depend on.
You'll contribute to core platform components using technologies like Kafka, ClickHouse, Tinybird, and Snowflake, gaining exposure to real infrastructure challenges including throughput, latency, schema evolution, fault tolerance, and designing systems that scale reliably.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to systems that ingest, move, and serve data across Vercel, building reusable infrastructure rather than one-off pipelines
- Working with Kafka and streaming tooling to support real-time data movement under guidance from senior platform engineers
- Building monitoring, alerting, and observability to catch issues before they become outages
- Creating internal tools and abstractions that enable self-service access to ClickHouse, Tinybird, and Snowflake storage and query layers
- Developing platform features and fixes with growing independence, treating code review feedback as core to your growth
- Implementing access controls, data protection, and compliance practices across the platform
- Learning how the team makes architecture and build-vs-buy decisions at the platform level
You bring 1–3 years of experience in data engineering, backend/infrastructure engineering, or related field. You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, solid programming foundation in Python, Java, Scala, Go, or similar, and exposure to distributed systems and streaming/event-driven architecture. You're comfortable with SQL and curious about how storage and query systems work under the hood. You have an infrastructure mindset—drawn to building the foundation other systems run on—and strong communication skills for collaborating with senior engineers.
