Figma's Data Platform team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build foundational data infrastructure systems that power analytics, AI/ML, and data-driven decision-making across the company. You'll work on high-scale, high-impact challenges including the Snowflake data warehouse, ML Datalake, orchestration and pipeline infrastructure, and large-scale data ingestion and processing systems.
Key responsibilities include designing and building large-scale distributed data systems; developing batch and streaming solutions using technologies like Spark, Flink, Kafka, and Airflow/Dagster; managing and evolving core platforms; improving data reliability, consistency, and compliance; identifying cost optimization opportunities; collaborating with AI researchers, data scientists, product engineers, and business teams; driving technical decisions and best practices; and mentoring engineers.
You'll need 5+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience, including designing and building distributed data infrastructure at scale. Strong expertise in batch and streaming data processing technologies is essential. You should have a proven track record of impact-driven problem-solving in fast-paced environments with focus on high-quality, reliable, and performant systems. Excellent technical communication skills and experience mentoring engineers are required.
Preferred qualifications include familiarity with Golang, Python, SQL, dbt, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, and Dagster; experience building data infrastructure for AI/ML pipelines; experience with reverse ETL and real-time event ingestion systems; knowledge of data governance and cost optimization strategies; and ability to navigate ambiguity and drive projects from inception to execution.
