Speechify is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Data side of its AI team. The company's mission is to make reading never a barrier to learning, with over 50 million users leveraging its text-to-speech products across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and web platforms. Recently recognized as Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and a 2025 Design Award winner for Inclusivity by Apple, Speechify operates as a fully distributed, 100% remote company with ~200 employees globally.
In this role, you'll own all aspects of data collection to support model training operations. You'll work on building high-quality datasets at petabyte scale while optimizing for cost through tight integration of infrastructure, engineering, and research. Key responsibilities include: sourcing new audio data and integrating it into ingestion pipelines; operating and extending cloud infrastructure on GCP using Terraform; collaborating with research scientists to shift the cost/throughput/quality frontier; and helping craft the AI team's dataset roadmap to power next-generation consumer and enterprise products.
You should have a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, 5+ years of industry software development experience, and strong proficiency with bash/Python scripting in Linux environments. Docker, Infrastructure-as-Code, and hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (GCP preferred) are required. Experience with web crawlers and large-scale data processing workflows is a plus. The ideal candidate is scrappy, adaptable to changing priorities, and communicates clearly both written and verbally.
Speechify offers a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment with a hands-off management approach, competitive salaries, stock options, and the opportunity to impact millions of users with learning differences including dyslexia, ADD, low vision, and autism. You'll work at the intersection of AI and audio, one of tech's fastest-growing sectors.
