Speechify is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Data side of its AI team. The company's mission is to make reading accessible to everyone through text-to-speech technology, serving over 50 million users across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and web platforms. In this role, you'll own all aspects of data collection and pipeline infrastructure to support model training operations. You'll work on building high-quality datasets at petabyte scale while optimizing for cost and throughput. Key responsibilities include: sourcing new audio data and integrating it into ingestion pipelines; operating and extending cloud infrastructure on GCP using Terraform; collaborating closely with research scientists to shift the cost/throughput/quality frontier; and helping shape the AI team's dataset roadmap for next-generation consumer and enterprise products.
You'll need a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, plus 5+ years of industry software development experience. Required skills include proficiency with bash/Python scripting in Linux, Docker, Infrastructure-as-Code concepts, and hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (GCP preferred). Experience with web crawlers and large-scale data processing workflows is a plus. The ideal candidate is scrappy, adaptable to changing priorities, and communicates clearly both written and verbally.
