Speechify is a fast-growing AI & audio company on a mission to make reading accessible to everyone. Over 50 million users rely on Speechify's text-to-speech products across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and web platforms. The company has been recognized by Google (Chrome Extension of the Year) and Apple (2025 Design Award for Inclusivity) and operates as a fully distributed, ~200-person team with talent from Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Stanford, and successful startups like Stripe and Vercel. You'll join the Data side of the AI team, responsible for building and operating the infrastructure that powers petabyte-scale, high-quality datasets for model training. This is a hands-on engineering role that bridges infrastructure, data engineering, and AI research. Key responsibilities include: sourcing new audio data and integrating it into ingestion pipelines; operating and extending cloud infrastructure (GCP, Terraform) for data collection at scale; collaborating with AI scientists to optimize the cost/throughput/quality tradeoff; and helping shape the AI team's dataset roadmap for next-generation consumer and enterprise products. You'll be scrappy and entrepreneurial, wearing multiple hats in a fast-moving environment. The role requires strong technical depth in cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and scripting, combined with the ability to communicate across teams and adapt to shifting priorities. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of software engineering experience, a CS degree (BS/MS/PhD), and proficiency with Python/bash, Docker, Infrastructure-as-Code, and at least one major cloud provider. Experience with web crawlers and large-scale data processing is a plus. You'll thrive in a hands-off management culture where you can focus on high-impact work.
