Speechify is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Data side of its AI team. The company's mission is to make reading accessible through text-to-speech technology, serving over 50 million users across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and web platforms. Speechify was recently named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and received Apple's 2025 Design Award for Inclusivity.
This role is central to building and operating the data infrastructure that powers Speechify's next-generation AI models. You'll be responsible for all aspects of data collection and ingestion pipelines that support model training at petabyte scale. The team operates in a fully distributed, 100% remote setting with nearly 200 employees globally, including engineers from Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Stanford PhD researchers, and founders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Sourcing new audio data and integrating it into the ingestion pipeline
- Operating and extending cloud infrastructure for data pipelines on GCP, managed with Terraform
- Collaborating with research scientists to optimize the cost/throughput/quality frontier of datasets
- Working with the AI team and leadership to define the dataset roadmap for consumer and enterprise products
You should have a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field with 5+ years of software development experience. Required skills include proficiency with bash/Python scripting in Linux, Docker, Infrastructure-as-Code concepts, and hands-on experience with major cloud providers (GCP preferred). Experience with web crawlers and large-scale data processing workflows is a plus. The ideal candidate is adaptable, communicative, and comfortable in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
