Kustomer is a conversational CRM platform backed by Meta (acquired 2022, spun out 2023) and recently raised $30M Series B. The company serves leading brands like Sweetgreen, Starz, and Vuori with AI-native customer service tools. You'll own cost optimization across Kustomer's cloud and AI infrastructure as a senior engineer on the Foundation team. This is an end-to-end ownership opportunity: you'll set strategy, build tooling, and drive impact from conception through execution. Key responsibilities include: **AWS & Infrastructure Cost Optimization**: Lead EC2 right-sizing, Reserved Instances/Savings Plans, spot usage optimization, and storage tiering. Build dashboards and anomaly detection to track spend by team/service. Partner with engineering teams to identify and eliminate waste (idle resources, over-provisioned instances, redundant environments). Drive architectural decisions balancing cost, performance, and reliability using Terraform. **AI Token Spend Optimization**: Analyze and reduce LLM token spend across Kustomer's AI-native platform through model right-sizing, prompt efficiency, caching, and routing strategies. Work with the Foundations team on developer tooling and guardrails. Evaluate deterministic vs. generative approaches from a cost lens. Support Kustomer's AI capabilities (Architect, Concierge, Envoy) with performance and cost efficiency. **Cross-Team Collaboration**: Report cost trends and savings opportunities to engineering leadership. Proactively identify systemic inefficiencies and build tooling to prevent recurrence. Collaborate with FinOps/finance on forecasting and budget tracking while maintaining engineering momentum. You'll work with AWS (EC2, Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports, Trusted Advisor), Terraform, and a modern stack including MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, Clickhouse, Kafka, Kinesis, Go, Python, and JavaScript. The role requires deep AWS infrastructure expertise at scale and a track record of driving measurable cloud cost reductions.
