Neo4j is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Core Networking Engineering Team, working on the graph intelligence platform trusted by 84 of the Fortune 100. In this role, you will primarily develop Neo4j's network server modules, with scope to contribute to drivers, APIs, and the proprietary Bolt binary protocol. You'll leverage deep expertise in network concepts and binary protocols to influence the strategic direction of connectivity features alongside product managers.
Key responsibilities include designing new features and protocol improvements, implementing designs in the server codebase, and collaborating with stakeholders across the company. Beyond core development, you'll support community projects, contribute technical content, and participate in training and events.
You bring 5+ years of practical experience with Java language, platform, and ecosystem. Ideally, you have hands-on experience with network development (binary protocols like Bolt or MongoDB Wire Protocol), network packet analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark), distributed system design, API design, and asynchronous programming patterns. Experience with Netty, database management systems, graph databases, or system-oriented languages (C, C++, Rust, Go) is a plus.
