Neo4j is seeking an experienced backend engineer to join the Kernel team, which develops the core storage engines, transaction handling, indexes, data import, and page cache for the world's leading graph database platform. You will work on solving advanced computer science problems and delivering high-quality code as part of an international team based in Malmö and London. Key responsibilities include building and shipping new features for the graph database core, writing high-quality testable and efficient code, promoting ideas and participating in feature discussions and roadmap prioritization, integrating research and emerging technologies into the database core (the team regularly reviews research papers for innovative ideas), and participating in "do what you want weeks" to work on personal product enhancements and integrations. You should have experience designing multi-threaded systems and algorithms, deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms, proficiency in Java or C-style programming languages, strong troubleshooting skills, knowledge of performance profiling and optimization, and experience leading and delivering development projects. The ideal candidate is humble, values intellectual honesty, communicates well, and has a sense of humor. Additional valuable experience includes database management systems expertise, deep JVM knowledge, and experience working with large codebases.
