Alkira, a Lumen company, is a cloud networking platform transforming how enterprises deploy and manage networks. We are seeking a Software Engineer with Control/Routing expertise to develop software for Alkira's CSX (Cloud Services Exchange) platform.
You will own the design, development, and debugging of networking software that powers Alkira's cloud services exchange. Working with PLM and Sales teams, you'll translate requirements into features, take ownership of implementations, and drive resolution of production issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing control-plane and routing features in Go and C
- Developing software for FRR routing protocol stack integration
- Debugging and root-cause analysis of live routing issues
- Participating in on-call rotation to support production systems across US and India time zones
- Collaborating with geographically distributed engineering teams
Required qualifications:
- B.S. in EE or CS (or equivalent) plus minimum 2 years hands-on networking or routing software development
- Strong programming in Go (primary) and C
- Deep understanding of networking fundamentals, IP routing, and BGP
- Linux networking expertise: interfaces, namespaces, kernel routing/forwarding path
- Systematic debugging and root-cause analysis skills
- Ability to work across US and India time zones
Preferred experience:
- FRR, ZebOS, or equivalent open-source routing stacks
- Multithreaded systems design and implementation
- Cloud networking across AWS, Azure, GCP (VPC/VNet, peering, transit gateways)
- L2/L3VPN, VPN/remote-access technologies (OpenVPN)
- ZTNA and zero-trust remote access solutions
- Data path understanding (encryption, NAT, overlay tunnels)
This is a hybrid role requiring onsite collaboration at the San Jose office. On-call participation is mandatory and provides deep learning opportunities for system mastery. Candidates must be currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area and authorized to work in the US; visa sponsorship is not available.
