Cloudflare's Network Interconnect (CNI) team is hiring a Software Engineer to build and operate systems that enable enterprise customers to connect their networks directly to Cloudflare's global infrastructure through private, dedicated interconnects. This role is central to supporting Magic Transit, Cloudflare WAN, Zero Trust, and application security for some of Cloudflare's largest customers.
You will design, build, and extend systems for provisioning, monitoring, and orchestrating private network interconnects at scale. Working across the full software development lifecycle, you'll collaborate with Product Management, Network Engineering, and Infrastructure teams on ambitious initiatives. Your responsibilities include system design and documentation, writing code and automated tests, and managing production deployments.
The tech stack includes Rust, Go, PostgreSQL, Prometheus, Kubernetes, Linux networking, network operating systems, and BGP routing. The team operates under a "Run What You Build" model, meaning you'll participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of system health.
Desirable experience includes systems-level programming (Rust, Go, C, C++), IP networking fundamentals (BGP, Layer 3 routing, cross-connects, VLANs, overlay tunnels), building and debugging distributed systems, and on-call rotation participation. Bonus skills include BGP configuration and peering operations, network infrastructure automation, IPAM systems (NetBox), cloud provider networking (AWS Direct Connect, GCP Partner Interconnect, Azure ExpressRoute), overlay technologies (GRE, VXLAN), Kubernetes deployments, CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch), and AI-assisted development tools.
