Cloudflare is seeking a Software Engineer to join the CDN Configuration Group, a team responsible for the end-to-end configuration ecosystem across the edge platform. The team's mission is delivering a coherent, safe, highly performant, and resilient experience that empowers customers to modify their traffic routing with confidence.
In this role, you will collaborate with skilled software professionals to deliver robust mechanisms that grant users total governance and safety across their network settings. You will architect services that let users seamlessly prototype, execute, evaluate, and discard tailored traffic rules, ensuring optimal alignment with their operational requirements. Your work extends beyond a single codebase—you will directly interface with distributed edge platforms and partner with cross-functional teams to streamline and fortify Cloudflare's global infrastructure.
You will stand at the intersection of core application deployment and infrastructure operations, driving technical alignment alongside engineering peers across the organization. Cloudflare runs one of the world's largest networks, serving tens of millions of HTTP requests per second and powering millions of websites for customers ranging from individual bloggers to Fortune 500 companies.
The role emphasizes building large, distributed systems that operate safely in production, with a focus on deployment, rollout, rollback, and observability. You will drive communication and consensus across teams and maintain a drive for continuous improvement in both operations and new product development.
**Requirements:**
- Solid competencies in practical computer science: algorithms, data structures, concurrency control systems, and large distributed systems design
- Experience operating production systems safely (deployment, rollout, rollback, observability)
- Ability to drive communication and consensus across teams
- Drive for continuous improvement in operations and product development
**Bonus/Desirable Experience:**
- Languages: Rust, Go
- Knowledge of web servers and web protocols
- Distributed systems and distributed configuration/state-distribution systems
- Safe deployment practices: progressive rollout, versioning/snapshots, CI/CD
- Web security issues and industry standards
- Willingness to learn and tackle unique challenges at scale
