AIRO Group is seeking a Software Engineer to lead the design and development of Command and Control (C2) integration layers for autonomous unmanned aerial systems (UAS) platforms. This hands-on role focuses on architecting middleware and abstraction layers that enable seamless interoperability between AIRO's UAS and external defense ecosystems, including third-party Ground Control Stations (GCS) and tactical networks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architect and build C2 middleware and SDK adapters to integrate AIRO UAS platforms with diverse third-party GCS and defense tactical networks
- Lead portfolio-wide implementation of core defense messaging standards including Cursor on Target (CoT), MAVLink, UCI, and OMS across airborne and ground nodes
- Engineer resilient, low-latency video streaming pipelines and telemetry routing using RTSP, WebRTC, and real-time networking protocols
- Develop custom plugins and integrations for ATAK, WinTAK, and commercial Ground Control Stations
- Execute comprehensive Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) testing to validate C2 communication layers before live flight deployment
- Optimize systems for contested, bandwidth-constrained edge environments where mission reliability is critical
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in real-time systems, network protocols, and defense standards. Experience with UAV/drone platforms, tactical communications, or aerospace systems is highly valued. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical technology that directly impacts field operations in high-stakes environments.
