Figma is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work on high-performance, technically challenging systems at the core of their design collaboration platform. You'll develop client-side systems in C++/WebAssembly, extend multiplayer protocols that enable real-time collaborative design, and build communication layers between C++ and JavaScript. Your work will push the boundaries of what's possible in the browser while serving millions of users globally. Key responsibilities include: - Building core features and frontend infrastructure in a real-time, multiplayer system with complex in-memory data models (SceneGraph) - Optimizing performance and memory usage to deliver fast, reliable UX in the browser using C++/WebAssembly and TypeScript - Extending the core C++ engine and multiplayer protocols to support scalable design systems, branching/merging flows, and advanced collaboration modes - Designing and building APIs and tooling for product teams to build against the platform - Contributing to accessibility strategy and implementation - Collaborating with cross-functional partners in product, design, and engineering - Writing clear, maintainable code and documentation; contributing to architectural decisions - Mentoring and supporting other engineers through pairing, code review, and feedback - Helping drive recruitment and shape engineering culture Required qualifications: - 4+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping user-facing features or products - Strong programming skills in TypeScript, C++, React, Go, Rust, or Python - Experience with web-based applications, browser performance, or real-time collaborative systems - Track record of collaborating across teams to deliver complex technical projects Desirable experience includes technical lead roles across multiple teams, game engines or rendering systems, developer platforms/API design, WebAssembly/browser internals, and passion for collaborative tools and creative workflows.
