Salary: USD 198,750 - 295,000 / annual

Hex is seeking an experienced backend-leaning product engineer to expand the capabilities of its AI analytics platform. The role focuses on building complex workflows that increase the reach and ergonomics of Hex's agentic analytics platform, with particular emphasis on features enabling the AI agent to operate across more customer segments and surface areas including APIs, MCP (Model Context Protocol), and command-line interfaces. Key responsibilities include: - Building and extending Hex's API and CLI to enable powerful, ergonomic workflows for sophisticated technical users - Designing MCP server and client implementations to expand entry points into platform capabilities - Designing and implementing a next-generation access control system, including role-based access control (RBAC), admin request/approval flows, and tiered admin roles that scale with complex organizations - Owning full-stack product changes end-to-end, from backend policy enforcement to admin-facing workflows, ensuring enterprise features are intuitive, reliable, and secure - Proposing and implementing well-architected, scalable systems in collaboration with the broader Hex team Required qualifications: - 5+ years of backend or full-stack software engineering experience - Skilled at building systems with high complexity and intricate business logic - Deep interest and/or experience developing state-of-the-art agentic workflows involving disparate systems and tools - Experience working in remote-first teams with strong communication skills - Passion for technical collaboration including RFCs, code reviews, and architecture discussions - Hands-on familiarity with enterprise integrations: SSO, SCIM-based provisioning, audit logs, MFA, and delegated access - Strategic mindset balancing business and product goals with engineering excellence - Willingness to make changes anywhere in the stack to drive impact Tech stack: TypeScript, React, Apollo GraphQL, Redux, Express, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes, Python, Terraform, Helm, and AWS.
