CLEAR is building a secure identity platform that serves over 43 million members globally, transforming how people experience identity verification across airports, stadiums, and everyday life. The company is expanding beyond traditional ID verification into a networked digital identity ecosystem.
You will join the backend engineering team to design, implement, test, and deploy applications that power CLEAR's next-generation identity platform. Your work will focus on building systems that interconnect dozens of identity attributes and qualifications while maintaining privacy and security at the core.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advancing platform capabilities across multiple industries and domains
- Gaining hands-on experience with privacy, security, data modeling, and system architecture
- Developing and delivering code across the full stack with emphasis on testing, documentation, and observability
- Partnering with product and cross-functional stakeholders to uncover requirements and solve complex problems
- Taking strong ownership of architectural decisions and driving continuous improvement in technology and processes
You bring 3+ years of backend software development experience in Java and are fluent in cloud-based application development. Ideal candidates have hands-on experience with AWS, containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD tools (GitHub, Argo, Jenkins). You excel at articulating technical concepts to mixed audiences, collaborating and mentoring less experienced team members, and thriving with ambiguity. You're curious about technology, committed to constant learning, and capable of autonomous problem-solving.
The tech stack includes Java, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and AWS cloud infrastructure. CLEAR maintains a swift hiring process typically completed in about 3 weeks: recruiter call, technical screen, onsite panel interviews, manager conversations, and offer.
