Opto's platform replaces spreadsheets and paperwork with intuitive tools and data-driven guidance for identifying and accessing investment opportunities.
As a Backend Software Engineer, you'll own the delivery of high-quality software projects across the full development lifecycle—from specification and implementation through code review, QA, deployment, and operations. You'll work on Python FastAPI REST services and AWS Lambda functions that power an end-to-end platform for private markets investing. The tech stack includes Typescript/React/Next.js on the frontend, Python on the backend, and AWS infrastructure with automated deployments executing multiple times daily.
You'll be an end-to-end owner of engineering problems, constantly collaborating with teammates and stakeholders to hit agreed timelines. Responsibilities include contributing to all phases of product development, seeking context to eliminate ambiguity, participating in engineering recruiting, and raising your hand when you need support to unblock progress.
Required: 6+ years of hands-on software development with strong individual contribution focus. You'll need proficiency in Python, REST APIs, and SQL, with familiarity across the broader tech stack (Typescript/React, AWS). Strong grasp of distributed systems tradeoffs (data modeling, API design, performance tuning), deep understanding of testing and delivery practices (pytest, CI/CD), and experience applying AI/LLMs to data extraction and document generation. Background or demonstrated interest in investment management, fintech, or financial data is expected. You thrive in ambiguity, execute independently, and communicate with clarity in a fast-paced startup environment.
