Krea is building next-generation AI creative tools designed to empower human creativity rather than replace it. The company has raised over $83M from top-tier investors including a16z and Bain Capital, and recently launched Krea 2, a foundational model built from scratch for aesthetic diversity and stylistic control. In this role, you'll own backend systems end-to-end across the full stack: the SvelteKit application and its Postgres, Redis, and ClickHouse data layer; Python services running ML inference; and Kubernetes clusters orchestrating compute across multiple cloud and GPU providers. You'll be responsible for design, deployment, monitoring, and production operations. Current focus areas include building durable execution for long-running workflows (state machines, idempotency, retry semantics for multi-step inference jobs), improving the public API with clean OpenAPI documentation, and implementing enterprise product features (ACLs, audit logs, entitlements). You should have 4–8 years of experience owning real production systems end-to-end, including design, monitoring, metrics, and incident response. You're comfortable across the stack, unfazed by unfamiliar code, and have strong opinions about scalable architecture. You write and communicate clearly and work well with minimal PM oversight. Bonus qualifications include GPU or infrastructure experience, production Kubernetes expertise, or a creative background—many team members have creative skills, which helps when building tools for creatives, though it's not required. The company values first-principles engineering over specific language or tool familiarity. The team includes musicians, designers, visual artists, and engineers working full-time in-person at a waterfront San Francisco office. Compensation includes competitive salary and equity, comprehensive health coverage, flexible PTO, 401k matching, in-office meals, covered transit, and visa sponsorship support.
