Mirage is an AI-native video platform that uses natural language to intelligently orchestrate video production and editing. The company's models replicate professional editor decisions, making video creation accessible to both experienced teams and newcomers.
As a Backend Software Engineer, you'll own critical backend systems end-to-end, working across product, platform, and machine learning infrastructure. You'll design and build services, APIs, data pipelines, and infrastructure that power the platform's product surfaces. This role involves solving complex technical challenges in distributed systems, scaling, concurrency, and performance optimization.
Key responsibilities include designing and owning backend systems end-to-end; solving complex technical challenges across distributed systems and performance; integrating and operating large generative AI models in production, including deployment, serving, and scaling; instrumenting and experimenting in production to improve system and product quality; and designing core platform infrastructure including third-party integrations, storage systems, security, and internal APIs.
You'll partner closely with product, design, client, and AI teams to turn ambitious ideas into reliable, scalable production systems. The role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems while staying connected to product and user outcomes.
Required qualifications: 2+ years of professional industry experience, a track record of shipping high-impact systems and/or products in production, exceptional problem-solving fundamentals and ability to learn, excellent engineering taste combined with practicality and time management, and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while scoping and delivering projects end-to-end.
Preferred qualifications include extensive experience with LLMs and generative media models, collaborative and grounded approach, willingness to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed, and prior startup founder or early-stage engineering experience.
The role is based in-person at Mirage's NYC headquarters in Union Square.
