As a Backend Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain the backend services and APIs powering the flight safety platform. You'll work alongside senior engineers and product partners to build reliable, scalable systems that support production environments and mission-critical applications. Your responsibilities include designing and maintaining backend services and APIs for web and mobile applications, integrating with internal and external data sources (both real-time and batch pipelines), collaborating with product managers and cross-functional teams to deliver backend features, participating in code reviews, and ensuring system reliability, performance, and maintainability through testing, monitoring, and documentation.
You should have 2+ years of backend systems experience (or equivalent through internships, projects, or coursework), proficiency with modern backend languages such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), familiarity with API design/consumption and databases/data stores, exposure to production environments with understanding of reliability, performance, and security fundamentals, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-moving environment. Bonus qualifications include passion for aviation, exposure to data pipelines or real-time data systems, interest in machine learning or data-intensive systems, and familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD workflows, or DevOps concepts.
This is a hybrid role based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite with flexibility to work remotely on remaining days.
