Beacon AI is building an AI platform to enhance flight safety, efficiency, and capability in aviation. The company is backed by top investors, holds a dozen Department of Defense contracts, and partners with major airlines to deliver mission-critical systems. They operate with a lean, fast-moving structure where small teams own their work and ship quickly. As a Backend Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain backend services and APIs that power the flight safety platform. You'll work closely with senior engineers and product partners to build reliable, scalable systems serving web and mobile applications. Your responsibilities include designing and implementing backend services, integrating with internal and external data sources (real-time and batch pipelines), collaborating with product managers on feature delivery, participating in code reviews, and ensuring system reliability through testing, monitoring, and documentation. You should have 2+ years of backend systems experience (or equivalent through internships and projects), proficiency in a modern backend language like Python or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), familiarity with API design/consumption and databases, and exposure to production environments with understanding of reliability, performance, and security fundamentals. Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn from mentorship, and ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-moving environment are essential. Bonus qualifications include passion for aviation, exposure to data pipelines or real-time systems, interest in machine learning or large-scale data processing, and familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD workflows, or DevOps concepts.
