Beacon AI is building an AI platform to enhance flight safety, efficiency, and capability in aviation. They operate with minimal silos and heavy processes, enabling small, focused teams to own their work, ship quickly, and iterate based on real-world feedback. As a Backend Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and maintain the backend services and APIs powering the flight safety platform. You'll work alongside senior engineers and product partners to build reliable, scalable systems that support production environments and real-world aviation applications. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and implementing backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that support web and mobile applications - Building reliable, scalable systems in production environments with senior engineer guidance - Integrating with internal and external data sources, including real-time and batch pipelines - Collaborating with product managers and cross-functional teams to deliver backend features - Participating in code reviews and maintaining backend best practices and architectural patterns - Ensuring system reliability, performance, and maintainability through testing, monitoring, and documentation You should have 2+ years of backend systems experience (or equivalent through internships, projects, or coursework), proficiency with modern backend languages like Python or JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), and familiarity with API design, databases, and production environments. Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn from mentorship, and ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-moving environment are essential. Bonus qualifications include passion for aviation, exposure to data pipelines or distributed systems, interest in machine learning or data-intensive systems, and familiarity with cloud platforms, CI/CD workflows, or DevOps. This is a hybrid role based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite with flexibility to work remotely on other days.
