Horizon3.ai is a fast-growing cybersecurity company building NodeZero, an autonomous pentest platform that helps organizations proactively discover and fix exploitable attack vectors before criminals exploit them. The platform is used by IT/SecOps teams, consultants, and managed service providers across organizations ranging from educational institutions to Global 100 enterprises. The Pentest Data Platform team is undertaking a major architectural transformation: migrating from a batch-based system to a real-time, event-driven microservice architecture. This foundational shift will enable Horizon3 to handle hundreds of thousands of hosts and stream findings as they're discovered, reducing customer insight time from weeks to hours. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will own significant pieces of this rework end-to-end. You'll design and build event-driven services that process pentest data in real time, handling event streaming, stream processing, storage, schema evolution, and replayable processing. You'll take ambiguous, high-impact problems from conception through design, implementation, rollout, and long-term operation without requiring detailed guidance. Key responsibilities include: translating existing batch-era logic (finding enrichment, attack path analysis, host/identity correlation, reporting) into streaming-friendly designs; solving distributed systems challenges around data correlation and deduplication; breaking apart a monolithic data storage system for a rapidly growing engineering organization; establishing operational excellence through SLOs, instrumentation, alerting, and incident response; and raising the technical bar through design reviews, technical writing, and clear API contracts with neighboring teams. Required: 4+ years software engineering experience, proficiency in Python and/or Go with large-scale codebase experience, production PostgreSQL experience (schema design, migrations, query performance), AWS or comparable cloud experience with containers/Kubernetes, hands-on observability tooling experience (Datadog, OpenTelemetry), and a Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent. Desired: event-driven architecture or streaming platform experience (Kafka, Kinesis, Flink), distributed systems design at scale, experience migrating batch systems to streaming or decomposing monoliths, graph database experience (Neo4j), cybersecurity/pentesting background, and encryption patterns knowledge.
