Zania is building agentic AI for Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), automating and augmenting complex risk and compliance workflows for enterprise customers including FAANG and Big 4 firms. As a Software Engineer, you will be a core member of the engineering team building backend systems that power both the core product and the agentic AI platform. This is a backend-focused role for engineers who thrive on solving challenges at massive scale; full-stack experience is a strong plus.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engineering core product features: take ownership of building and delivering scalable, secure backend services that directly power user-facing product
- Building petabyte-scale AI pipelines: design and implement robust systems for retrieval over petabyte-scale document troves and engineer pipelines for large-scale data collection
- Developing advanced agentic systems: build backend infrastructure for complex, 1000-step planning agents and create organizational-level interfaces for human-AI collaboration
- Contributing to cloud infrastructure architecture and management, ensuring high availability and performance
- Engineering systems with the highest standards of security and reliability to protect sensitive data
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated impact on production backend systems
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Hands-on proficiency in Python and experience with distributed systems, large-scale data processing (e.g., Spark), or cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work closely with cross-functional teams and convey complex technical decisions clearly
- Proven track record of delivering complex, high-quality backend systems
- History of building and launching robust products or platforms, ideally in hyper-growth or 0-to-1 startup environments
- Full ownership mentality with strong bias for action and ability to manage complex priorities in fast-paced environment
- Pragmatic problem-solving approach; comfortable with ambiguity and viewing challenges as growth opportunities
TypeScript and React experience is a plus but not required. The company offers flexible PTO, medical/dental/vision insurance, meals and snacks in office, and relocation and immigration support.
