As a Backend Engineer, you will build reliable, scalable systems that power eligibility, coverage, billing, and client-facing operations. Your responsibilities include:
- Building and enhancing Golang microservices for eligibility, coverage, billing, and client systems
- Automating operational workflows to reduce manual data handling and improve accuracy
- Designing self-service tools for finance, operations, and client teams to manage processes independently
- Ensuring member, client, and operational data is accurate, consistent, and traceable
- Collaborating with data and AI teams to apply AI to data validation, process automation, and anomaly detection
- Contributing to client-facing APIs for seamless data exchange
Required qualifications:
- 5-7 years shipping backend code in high-quality production environments with data-centric systems exposure
- Production microservices experience
- Data and event-based architecture experience (APIs, SQL/NoSQL, messaging queues)
- Golang proficiency
- Cloud platform experience (Google Cloud, AWS, Azure)
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Commitment to long-term thinking and business impact without sacrificing engineering quality

Virta is remote-first with office hubs in Denver and San Francisco. The role involves handling HIPAA-protected patient information with required security and privacy training. Compensation: $114,500–$148,000 annually.
