As a Software Engineer, you will be a core contributor to product development, working alongside engineers, designers, and product managers. Your responsibilities include building and maintaining foundational infrastructure for Leland's platform, proposing innovative ideas to shape the product experience, and writing high-quality, performant code. You will own code quality through comprehensive testing and rigorous code reviews—the team does not have a separate QA department. You'll also contribute to team culture by fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience as a frontend, backend, or full-stack engineer with a proven track record of driving business impact. You are a self-starter who thrives with minimal supervision, ambitious and initiative-driven. You have strong opinions about technology but remain flexible and willing to learn new tools as business needs evolve. You take pride in your work, communicate nuanced ideas clearly, and are empathetic in disagreements. You enjoy collaborating with both engineers and cross-functional partners, and you invest in your own growth and that of your teammates.
Technical experience with React, TypeScript, Next.js, Java, or GraphQL is a plus, as is prior startup experience. Leland values people who want to make a great company, not just work for one.
