Cyvl is a Physical AI company building infrastructure intelligence for cities and towns. The company develops purpose-built sensors, computer vision, and AI systems that turn vehicle data into actionable insights about road conditions, infrastructure status, and maintenance needs. Over 500 cities use Cyvl's platform, and 1 in 30 Americans drive on roads managed with Cyvl data. As a Software Engineer, you will build the systems that transform raw sensor data from thousands of miles of roads into the platform cities use to plan and execute maintenance work. You'll own features end-to-end, from cloud data pipelines and APIs to the web application that customers use daily. Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, and ship production systems across the full stack: Python services, cloud data pipelines, APIs, and the Cyvl web platform - Own features from conception through production, collaborating directly with product, data operations, and customers to understand problems first - Build APIs and integrations (Esri ArcGIS, Cartegraph, and others) that embed Cyvl data into tools governments already use - Improve system performance, cost efficiency, and reliability as the platform scales to more cities and data volume - Use AI coding tools daily to accelerate development and help shape how the team adopts these tools The role is based in Somerville, MA, with an option to work remotely from San Francisco, CA. The team is on-site in Somerville approximately 90% of the time. Remote candidates based in San Francisco will be expected to travel to Somerville for key moments such as onboarding, project kick-offs, and milestones. Cyvl emphasizes ownership and impact: you own outcomes, not just tasks. You work directly with customers and across teams, taking on increasing responsibility quickly. The environment is intense but supportive, with genuine team connection and belief in the mission of improving public infrastructure. Requirements: - 3+ years of professional software engineering experience (5+ years for senior candidates, with a track record of leading technical projects) - Strong Python skills and experience building production backend systems - Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines - Comfort owning ambiguous problems end-to-end and shipping iteratively - Clear communication with both technical and non-technical teammates Nice to have: - Geospatial data or tools (PostGIS, GDAL, ArcGIS, QGIS) - Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), Go, or TypeScript/React - 3D graphics or point cloud work (Three.js, WebGL, LiDAR) - Large-scale ELT pipelines or data lakehouses - Early-stage startup experience or a history of building from zero to one
