Salary: GBP 75,000 - 200,000 / annual
Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonized energy system. The company controls hundreds of thousands of energy assets—vehicle chargers, heating systems, and home batteries—shifting energy usage to times when electricity is cheap and green. As a Software Engineer, you'll build core infrastructure for connecting to distributed energy devices, orchestrating them, and enabling participation in electricity markets. This is a generalist role spanning product engineering, DevOps, and data engineering. You'll form deep domain understanding, talk directly with clients, gather user feedback, and work closely with market operators. The company operates a deliberately flat structure with fewer layers, faster decisions, and more ownership for everyone.
You'll focus on outcomes over process, taking ownership of end-to-end products you ship. You'll manage your own time and adapt to changing scope and deadlines, delivering high-impact solutions efficiently. The tech stack includes Python and React for the frontend, Docker for deployment reproducibility, GCP for cloud infrastructure, and aggressive use of AI tools (Claude Code) to enhance workflows.
Compensation includes a meaningful equity slice alongside competitive base salary (£75k–£200k total), with a deliberately equitable 1:1 median ratio between founder and team pay.
