Nexla is a leading AI-driven integration platform trusted by companies like DoorDash, LinkedIn, and Johnson & Johnson. The platform uses a metadata-driven approach to unify data, documents, agents, applications, and APIs into a single design pattern, accelerating development for GenAI, analytics, and inter-company data solutions. You will work across the full stack of Nexla's SaaS platform, writing production Python daily with FastAPI. The API team owns the centralized management plane for all platform operations. You'll work with a small, focused team where your contributions are visible from day one. Key responsibilities include: - Building platform features end-to-end: data models, APIs, deployments, and comprehensive tests - Owning internal and customer-facing APIs, ensuring performance, reliability, and clear contracts for other teams - Managing the data layer: designing schemas, writing performant queries, handling migrations across MySQL and Postgres, and managing multi-tenancy and background processing - Ensuring production excellence: debugging issues, fixing problems, and building monitoring and guardrails to prevent recurrence You'll spend roughly 70% building and shipping, 20% on architecture and technical debt, and 10% on code review, documentation, and mentoring. A current focus area is building a world-class user experience for dev/staging/production environments within the existing platform infrastructure. Required qualifications: 7+ years of professional software engineering with Python as your primary language; expertise in FastAPI or similar async frameworks (Starlette) and SQLAlchemy; strong SQL and relational database design skills; experience writing unit and integration tests; ownership of production systems with operational discipline (monitoring, alerting, incident response); and practical experience using AI tools in your work. Bonus skills include AWS/GCP deployment experience, background job processing (Celery, Dramatiq), message queues and event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Streams), and familiarity with data-intensive systems or the data integration domain. You thrive by owning what you build without waiting for permission, defining scope on the fly, fixing root causes rather than symptoms, leaving clear documentation, and explaining technical tradeoffs effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
