Figma is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its AI Platforms team, which builds core infrastructure and systems supporting AI features across the design platform. This role focuses on backend and infrastructure engineering for AI at scale, including agent infrastructure, context retrieval and ranking systems, and core AI services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and performant systems that support end-to-end AI feature development
- Collaborate with product, research, and infrastructure teams across the AI organization
- Shape platform strategy, roadmaps, and engineering best practices company-wide
- Debug and resolve complex production issues spanning multiple services and stack layers
- Mentor engineers and foster a culture of collaboration and technical excellence
Specific platform areas include:
- Evaluation frameworks for design generation quality used across all Figma AI features
- Agentic search systems providing relevant context from the Figma ecosystem to AI agents
- Figma MCP server improvements for reliability and developer experience
- Agent infrastructure including sandboxes, harnesses, and tools for Figma Make and Design Agent
- Preview and publishing platforms for code generated by AI agents
Required qualifications:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, particularly in backend or infrastructure
- 3+ years in AI, search infrastructure, or developer platforms
- Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, or Ruby
- Strong system design skills and proven track record architecting resilient production systems
- Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration experience
Preferred qualifications include experience building AI infrastructure at scale (model training/serving), evolving large-scale shared developer platforms, and leading technical strategy on complex multi-team projects.
