Aalyria is a leading aerospace technology company specializing in laser communications and temporospatial software-defined networking platforms for satellite and airborne mesh networks, including cislunar and deep-space communications. The company was founded on technology acquired from Google and operates in a regulated defense environment (CMMC, DoD Impact Levels, FedRAMP).
You will build the AI layer of the engineering organization, designing, shipping, and operating internal AI products and platform services. This is a full-stack building role where you own systems end-to-end, from design through operation and maintenance.
Key responsibilities include:
**Internal AI Chat and Agent Platform**: Deploy and extend an open-source frontend (e.g., LibreChat, Open WebUI) backed by Vertex AI models and future inference infrastructure. Implement SSO, access policies, RAG and MCP servers tied to GitLab repos and internal documentation, code execution capabilities (Code Interpreter-style), and internal tool integrations.
**AI-Native SWE Workflows in GitLab**: Build agents that generate merge requests, respond to review comments, and iterate autonomously, allowing engineers to drive AI-assisted work entirely through their existing review interface.
**Sandboxed Development Environments**: Create isolated, policy-enforced environments where agents and supervising engineers can safely run code, access repositories, and use tools. Extend this to infrastructure enabling AI to safely interact with real hardware in lab environments.
**AI Observability and Cost Tracking**: Implement request-level telemetry, usage analytics, and cost attribution across all model usage to understand internal AI adoption and ROI.
You will work closely with the security and compliance director to understand regulatory constraints and engineer systems that maximize utility while maintaining compliance. The role requires balancing innovation with the operational rigor demanded by a defense-sector company.
