Hex is hiring senior and staff-level fullstack engineers to build Magic AI features that augment and accelerate analytics workflows. You'll join the Agent Platform team, taking the lead on building AI-powered features into Hex's web-based notebook and app authoring platform. Your work will involve partnering closely with the Research team on context and model prompting, and collaborating with product engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities into the platform.
Key responsibilities include owning scalable agent infrastructure that powers data agents, developing cutting-edge experimentation tooling for rapid AI feature delivery, and leading major product initiatives. You'll work across the full stack—frontend (React, TypeScript, Apollo GraphQL, Redux) and backend (Express, GraphQL, Postgres, Redis, Kubernetes)—while maintaining high standards for design, correctness, and testing.
The role requires at least 4+ years of software engineering experience, strong proficiency with React and TypeScript, and demonstrated ability to lead and execute on major product initiatives. You should have an aptitude for web infrastructure, browser performance optimization, and systems design. The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, balances velocity with engineering excellence, and has curiosity about the broader business (go-to-market, customer development, marketing). Experience mentoring fellow engineers and a genuine interest in the data space are valued.
This is a hybrid role (1-2 days per week) based out of either the San Francisco headquarters or NYC office. The tech stack includes Terraform, Helm, and AWS for infrastructure, with a modern web platform built on TypeScript throughout.
