Sierra is building an AI agent platform to enable companies to deliver better, more human customer experiences. The company has recently achieved FedRAMP High certification and is now launching a dedicated public sector team to bring this technology to US federal and state government institutions.
In this role, you will design and build production-grade AI agents for government institutions at the federal and state level. You'll work closely with industry leadership to establish Sierra's public sector presence, including capture strategy, market positioning, and product development to scale rapidly.
Key responsibilities include partnering directly with government institutions to understand their most urgent needs and identify novel opportunities to expand impact through outbound engagement and long-horizon agent capabilities. Your direct customer work will guide the evolution of Sierra's core platform—you'll surface unmet needs, prototype new tools and features, and collaborate with research, product, and platform teams to shape the future of AI agent development.
You'll need full-stack software development skills and familiarity with AI development processes. A passion for public sector work and belief in the potential of government institutions to transform outcomes for constituents is essential. You must be comfortable working directly with customers to understand their workflows and solve real-world problems.
Ideal candidates have experience building conversational or long-horizon agents using proprietary or open-source frameworks, a demonstrated track record navigating ambiguity (e.g., as part of a founding team or forward-deployed engineering role), and prior understanding of government work including procurement, regulation, and partnership patterns.
Sierra is guided by core values: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and Family. The company is explicitly nonpartisan and committed to empowering public servants to leverage AI to advance their missions. Sierra's co-founders include Bret Taylor (former Salesforce co-CEO, OpenAI Board Chair, Google Maps co-creator) and Clay Bavor (18-year Google veteran who led Google Labs and AR/VR initiatives).
