Beacon AI is building an AI platform to enhance aviation safety, efficiency, and capability. The company operates with DoD contracts and partnerships with major airlines, delivering mission-critical flight safety systems.
As a Software Engineer on the Advanced Pilot Assistant Software team, you will design, build, and deploy autonomy, robotics, and embedded systems for safety-critical aviation environments. You'll work across the full stack—from development through production deployment—contributing hands-on to real-world systems that support pilot decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building robotic and embedded software components for pilot assistance systems
- Developing autonomy features from conception through deployment, prioritizing reliability and performance
- Writing, testing, and maintaining production-quality Python and/or C++ code
- Integrating software with hardware, sensors, and perception pipelines to enable autonomous and operator-in-the-loop decision-making
- Optimizing software for edge compute environments, managing latency and resource constraints
- Participating in testing, validation, and deployment to meet safety-critical requirements
- Collaborating with senior engineers and cross-functional teams in design and code reviews
You should have 2+ years of experience designing or building robotic software and/or embedded systems (through professional work, projects, or coursework). Production experience with C++ and/or Python is required. Familiarity with real-time systems supporting time-sensitive user decisions, autonomy subsystems (planning, decision-making, reasoning), sensor/perception pipelines, and embedded/edge compute platforms is expected.
Bonus qualifications include experience with safety-critical or mission-critical systems in aviation or robotics, exposure to ROS or DDS middleware, interest in human-in-the-loop or simulation systems, and background in autonomy or advanced mobility.
This is a hybrid role based in San Carlos, CA, requiring 3+ days per week onsite. Full-time employees receive comprehensive healthcare (100% employee premiums covered, 25% dependent), 3 weeks PTO plus 13+ paid holidays, and 401(k).
