The Farmer's Dog is a venture-backed direct-to-consumer pet food company that has delivered over 1 billion meals and raised $150M+ in funding. The company is on a mission to transform the $90 billion pet food industry by replacing processed kibble with personalized, freshly-made dog food delivered via subscription.
As a Software Engineer 3 on the Business Logic pod, you'll own the systems that power The Farmer's Dog's core operations: subscriptions, pricing, billing, and order generation. These are mission-critical systems that everything depends on, and the company is reshaping them to support the next phase of growth.
Your responsibilities include:
- Design and implement significant features across subscription, billing, and order systems
- Make architectural decisions that improve system reliability and reduce complexity
- Develop deep expertise in critical parts of the technology stack
- Partner closely with other engineering pods, Product, Design, Data Analytics, and Lifecycle Communications teams
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, pair programming, and whiteboarding sessions
- Ship code to production via CI/CD with peer review, using A/B experiments, feature flags, and progressive rollouts
The company emphasizes short feedback loops, trust in people to do good work, and a culture of continuous improvement. Engineers work on hard problems that matter: evolving systems for rapid growth, building flexible platforms for diverse customer needs, and creating novel product experiences. The organization is structured around customer problems and goals rather than traditional departments, with cross-functional collaboration between engineering, product, design, data, and marketing teams.
The Farmer's Dog values skepticism about everything, customer-centric decision-making, execution for impact, and working without assumptions—constantly validating hypotheses and adjusting priorities based on new information.
