New Relic is seeking a Software Engineer 2 to join the Streaming Services team in Barcelona. This team is responsible for routing and replicating platform data through globally distributed cloud environments in a high-throughput, low-latency, cost-aware streaming pipeline. The services process over a billion messages per minute across continents, regions, and cloud providers.
In this role, you will own, build, maintain, and scale streaming services and their support tools. You'll participate in an on-call rotation, bake stability into everything you build, and continually seek automation opportunities for built-in reliability. You'll collaborate with a globally distributed team to develop expertise and best practices for operating highly reliable streaming services.
Key responsibilities include: owning and improving team processes, participating in architectural definitions with innovation and creativity, developing automation and tooling to enhance scalability and reliability, and using innovation time to bring creative ideas to life.
Required qualifications: experience developing back-end services using Flink, Kafka, or other streaming platforms (large-scale experience is a plus); proficiency in Java with willingness to learn different languages and frameworks; hands-on experience with distributed systems, concurrency, and scaling in production environments; comfort in fast-paced environments delivering production code using Agile methodologies; collaborative work style with shared code ownership; and proficiency in English.
Bonus qualifications include Apache Flink experience, production Kubernetes at scale, familiarity with New Relic or similar observability solutions, and excitement about high-throughput data systems. Note: visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
