Abnormal AI is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to build and maintain customer-facing products that enable Security Operations Center (SOC) teams to search across cloud email tenants, investigate threats, and perform remediation at scale. You will design and develop backend services powering search, remediation, and quarantine workflows in multi-tenant enterprise email environments. The role emphasizes ownership of reliability, including unit testing, integration testing, and production observability. You'll participate in on-call rotations, contribute to REST API design for security operations teams, and work in an async-first distributed environment. Key responsibilities include designing backend services for multi-tenant email security workflows, end-to-end feature development with Tech Leads and Product Managers, owning system reliability and production observability, participating in on-call support, API design for customer-facing endpoints, async communication in a distributed team, and mentoring junior engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing. Required qualifications: BS in Computer Science or related field, 3+ years of backend development and distributed systems experience, proven ability to build and operate features in production while balancing feature work with reliability, experience with distributed teams and async communication, track record improving service reliability and observability, and strong fundamentals in data structures and system design. Nice-to-have skills include experience with Python, Go, AWS, Kubernetes, and Django; familiarity with search systems, remediation workflows, or SOC operational tooling; SIEM/SOAR integrations; and exposure to email security standards (DMARC, DKIM) or cybersecurity products.
