Abnormal AI is building Nora, an internal AI platform that powers AI-native workflows across the company. As a Software Engineer II on the AI Transformation Engineering team, you will own end-to-end platform components that enable every function at Abnormal to run on AI-powered systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Building and shipping the Nora platform — developing services, factories, and sandboxes that internal teams use to deploy AI workflows. You'll own real platform components end-to-end, from design through production.
• Weaving AI into internal systems — creating connectors, services, and integrations that bring AI capabilities into existing record-keeping and operational systems (Salesforce, Jira, data warehouses, internal applications). The focus is on making AI genuinely useful where work actually happens.
• Standing up net-new infrastructure — when a transformation requires capabilities that don't exist, you spec, ship, and harden the platform so other teams can build on top of it.
• Designing for handoff — you build the platform, then transition long-term ownership to a permanent home (often a platform team in R&D). This includes writing documentation, defining SLOs, and identifying the next owner before shipping.
• Owning outcomes, not just output — every engineer on this team owns a measurable contribution to a business outcome: revenue, cost savings, hours returned to the business, or capabilities unblocked for downstream teams.
The role offers direct impact: when you ship infrastructure, Marketing, Sales, or Support teams start running on it within weeks. You'll solve complex challenges at scale, building the production substrate that 2,000+ employees rely on daily. The company prioritizes workflow ROI even for platform work — if it doesn't move a business metric, it gets killed or handed off.
You'll collaborate with industry-leading engineers, AI researchers, security experts, and operators who treat AI leverage as a first-class engineering discipline. Your work directly impacts how Abnormal scales protection for Fortune 500 enterprises against sophisticated cyber attacks.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong backend experience with Python
• Fluency with the AI development stack: Claude, Codex, Gemini, Anthropic APIs, OpenAI APIs, and surrounding tooling (APIs, MCP, agents). Bonus for building plugins, skills, or integrations against these platforms.
• Track record of shipping platforms others build on — APIs, services, or SDKs that survived contact with other teams
• Experience building scalable, enterprise-grade applications
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong fundamentals in computer science, distributed systems, and performance optimization
• Operator empathy — ability to sit with operational leads (Sales Ops, Marketing Ops), understand their workflows, and design solutions that fit real work patterns
• Bias for handoff — you write documentation, define SLOs, and identify the next owner before shipping
