HackerRank is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test II (SDET-II) to lead and execute an automation-first quality strategy across web, API, and AI-driven systems. This is a hands-on, technically deep role with real ownership and impact.
You will lead and standardize test automation practices across teams and services, designing and building scalable automation frameworks using Playwright and SerenityJS. Your responsibilities include developing automated test suites in JavaScript/TypeScript for web, API, and workflow validation, designing and maintaining REST API automation using Postman or equivalent tools, and integrating automation deeply into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions.
You will enforce mandatory quality gates that block releases on automation or sanity failures, monitor automation executions, analyze failures, and drive root-cause resolution. You'll conduct automation code reviews to ensure consistency, reusability, and maintainability, and collaborate during design and story elaboration to define acceptance criteria and risk coverage.
Mentoring QA and engineering teams on automation frameworks, tooling, and best practices is a key part of this role. You'll also contribute to automation metrics, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required qualifications include 3+ years of experience in QA Automation or SDET roles, strong hands-on experience with Playwright and SerenityJS (JavaScript/TypeScript), proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript for building reliable automation, solid experience in REST API testing using Postman or similar tools, and hands-on experience with CI/CD automation using Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions. You should have working knowledge of Git (GitHub), experience with Docker and Kubernetes-based environments, understanding of accessibility (A11y) testing and WCAG principles, and strong problem-solving skills.
Desirable experience includes familiarity with AI agents or tools for testing AI-powered features, visual regression testing, cross-browser testing, performance validation, designing automation metrics and quality dashboards, and exposure to cloud-native SaaS platforms.
