Salary: USD 140,000 - 200,000 / annual

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you will ensure the reliability and performance of the company's core AI infrastructure. You will design, develop, and maintain robust automated testing frameworks from the ground up that support distributed AI training and inference workloads. Your work will validate the intersection of distributed systems, GPU kernels, and AI frameworks, building a scalable foundation of trust in the codebase.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and develop sophisticated automation frameworks and stress-testing suites to break and harden the system
- Create complex test plans that go beyond unit tests, focusing on end-to-end system integration, stress testing, and hardware-software boundary conditions
- Partner closely with System Engineers to debug deep-seated issues in distributed clusters using telemetry and profiling tools to identify bottlenecks
- Build scalable testing infrastructure that ensures performance-critical primitives work reliably at any scale
Required qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in Python for automation and orchestration
- Proven experience building or extending test automation frameworks for complex back-end systems
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot automated test failures in large-scale distributed systems and identify root causes
- Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and modern CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Desired experience includes Kubernetes, Terraform, or Ansible for managing test-bed environments; testing high-performance networking protocols or distributed file systems; and testing software that interacts with drivers or firmware.
The role is hybrid, based in Palo Alto or Charlottesville, VA, with flexibility across remote and on-site locations in the U.S. and Canada.
