GoCardless is a global bank payment company processing US$130bn+ annually across 30+ countries. The company enables over 100,000 businesses to collect, manage, and send bank payments through Direct Debit, real-time payments, and open banking, with AI-powered solutions for payment success and fraud reduction.
The Payer Proposition team is a small, growing engineering group building GoCardless' payer-facing products and services. This is a greenfield initiative focused on engaging tens of millions of payers who currently use GoCardless without direct relationship with the brand. The team is exploring how to improve the paying experience, introduce rewards and incentives, and leverage payer networks to enhance merchant services.
As a Software Development Engineer III, you will contribute to building web products and services across the full stack in a collaborative, high-ambiguity environment. You'll work with technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Ruby on Rails, Golang, Python, Postgres, BigQuery, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, and Google Cloud. The role emphasizes experimentation, prototyping, and iterative validation of ideas.
You should have experience building web products and services with awareness of technologies across the stack. The ideal candidate adapts quickly to new technologies and processes, thrives in collaborative environments, cares about reliable and well-tested systems, and enjoys solving problems with initiative. A growth mindset, driven by concrete business outcomes, is essential. Prior expertise in all listed technologies is not required; team members learn tools on the job.
GoCardless engineers contribute to open-source projects, share learnings through post-mortems and conferences, and help shape engineering culture both internally and in the wider community. The company is headquartered in the UK with teams spanning North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
