Innovaccer is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer III to lead backend and AI/ML development. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you'll personally design and build complex, high-impact components of the healthcare platform while setting technical direction for your team or domain.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and ship critical backend services, APIs, and data pipelines, writing production code daily
- Build end-to-end AI/ML-powered product features: integrating models, designing data flows, and ensuring reliable production performance
- Drive technical design for systems within your domain, making decisions on scalability, performance, security, and cost
- Model engineering best practices across the full SDLC—code quality, testing, security, observability, and operational excellence
- Build resilient, well-tested services that integrate across products and with external healthcare systems
- Ensure compliance with healthcare and data-protection requirements (HIPAA, GDPR) by embedding security into implementation
- Debug, profile, and harden production systems; own reliability and incident response
- Provide hands-on technical mentorship through design reviews, pairing, and code review
- Partner with product and clinical stakeholders to translate real-world needs into technically sound designs
- Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and tooling, balancing capability, cost, risk, and time-to-value
This is a builder's role first: you'll operate at Staff scope without stepping away from the keyboard, leading by doing while shaping architecture and mentoring peers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong track record of personally building and shipping production systems
- Deep, current, hands-on coding expertise in one or more modern languages (Python, Java, Go, or similar)—this role writes code daily
- Strong software design skills across distributed systems, backend services, APIs, and data-intensive architectures
- Experience building and integrating AI/ML into products: connecting models to real systems, handling data flows, and operationalizing them in production (research scientist background not required, but comfort building AI/ML-powered features is essential)
- Hands-on experience operating production systems: CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, performance tuning, and incident response
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7) and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, GDPR), or ability to ramp quickly on a regulated domain
- Strong problem-solving skills and clear communication; ability to align engineers and stakeholders around technical approaches
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
