Mapbox is the leading real-time location platform powering navigation for millions of developers and major automotive partners like BMW. The Routing Tiling team builds and operates the data infrastructure that transforms raw geospatial data from OpenStreetMap and commercial providers into highly optimized routing tiles at global scale.
In this role, you will design, build, and operate critical components of the routing data pipeline. You'll develop and scale systems that transform raw map data into performant, production-ready routing tiles. Key responsibilities include improving data freshness and processing efficiency to reduce pipeline latency from days to hours, integrating real-time traffic and map updates to enhance routing accuracy, and ensuring high reliability and availability of routing data delivered to global users and partners.
You'll build automated systems that maintain data integrity, consistency, and quality at scale, working at the intersection of large-scale data processing, distributed systems, and geospatial intelligence. The team emphasizes automation, data quality, and operational excellence.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of backend-focused engineering experience, 3+ years building modern Rust applications in commercial or open-source environments (or equivalent performance-critical systems experience), and 3+ years working with distributed systems, preferably AWS-based tools or Azure/GCP alternatives.
This is a full-time position with 40 hours per week and on-call rotation (1 week every 5 weeks).
