Mapbox is seeking a Software Development Engineer II (Fullstack) to join the Studio team, which builds the flagship map design tool used by millions of developers worldwide. Studio is a complex React/Redux application that powers how organizations create customized, immersive location-based experiences.
In this role, you will lead contributions to Mapbox Studio, shipping performant, testable code while facilitating informed technical decisions that drive the long-term vision for maps at Mapbox. You'll build workflow tools enabling map designers to create beautiful maps faster and easier, solve complex architecture problems in extensible ways, and bring clarity to technical challenges across the organization.
You'll participate actively in the design process by listening to users, attending design critiques, and providing technical guidance informed by deep understanding of constraints. Required expertise includes proven track record building full-featured client-side applications using React and TypeScript (ES6+), with deep understanding of HTML5 and CSS3. You need 3+ years building and maintaining scalable, high-volume, low-latency backend services and CI/CD pipelines. You should have sophisticated understanding of frontend architecture for large-scale, data-intensive applications with focus on memory management and rendering efficiency. Proficiency using AI as a productivity multiplier while auditing AI-generated code for security and performance is expected. You must be proficient in complex state management using Redux, have extensive experience integrating RESTful APIs, functional understanding of AWS cloud infrastructure, and comfort with testing frameworks like Playwright or Jest.
You should take pride in long-term system health, independently navigate the full development lifecycle, and possess a strong collaborative mindset with desire to mentor peers and document expertise. Nice-to-have experience includes prior work with web mapping technologies or geospatial data visualization.
