As a Software Development Engineer, you will contribute to designing and implementing scalable technical solutions while supporting the broader engineering team. You will actively participate in software architecture and system build discussions, writing clean, maintainable code and leveraging AI-enhanced development tools to boost velocity and quality. With strong problem-solving skills, you will debug complex issues, optimize system performance, and make sound trade-offs between speed and long-term maintainability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to software design and architecture, ensuring scalability and reliability
- Developing and enhancing new features while maintaining code quality and efficiency
- Identifying and resolving bugs while optimizing for performance and scalability
- Using AI-powered development tools to accelerate delivery and support debugging
- Writing and maintaining automated tests for reliable, repeatable releases
- Participating in code reviews to ensure adherence to industry standards
- Piloting and adopting emerging AI-powered engineering tools and workflows
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams including QA, Product Management, and DevOps
- Contributing to sprint planning, estimation, and technical documentation
- Working in accordance with The Re:Build Way principles
You will be based in either Los Angeles, CA or Seattle, WA, with quarterly travel to the Los Angeles office required for team meetings and site visits.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years' experience writing software in production environments
- Demonstrated understanding of software technologies across multiple computer languages
- Experience with high-level languages such as C#, JavaScript, Python, SQL, etc.
- Experience with design patterns, algorithms, and other computer science fundamentals
- Experience with various software stacks, including Web, Windows Desktop, Cloud, and IoT
- Experience with API technologies, including REST and GraphQL
- Experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure (Lambda, S3, API Gateway)
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) in a professional setting
- Experience working in Agile methodology and thriving in fast-paced development environments
- Hands-on experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
- Familiarity with automated testing practices (unit, integration) and CI/CD pipelines
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Willingness to travel
- Fluency in written and spoken English
