Quince is a manufacturer-to-consumer (M2C) e-commerce platform delivering high-quality essentials at low prices across apparel, accessories, home goods, and more. You will join the mobile engineering team as a Senior Software Development Engineer focused on building and optimizing high-performance React Native applications for Quince's consumer-facing mobile platform. This is an individual contributor role with significant technical depth and mentorship responsibilities.
**Key Responsibilities:**
Design, develop, and maintain production React Native applications with a focus on performance, scalability, and user experience. Take ownership of complex mobile engineering problems across the full stack, from JavaScript/TypeScript to native iOS and Android layers. Drive performance improvements in rendering, startup time, memory usage, and application stability. Identify and eliminate inefficiencies such as unnecessary re-renders and optimize large lists and complex UI interactions for smooth experiences across diverse devices.
Work deeply with React Native internals and modern architecture, including technologies like FlashList, React Native Reanimated, React Native Gesture Handler, and Expo. Investigate complex framework and platform-level issues, write and debug native code when required, and work with TurboModules to solve performance or platform-specific problems.
Develop comprehensive test cases, debug production issues, and establish practices that improve application stability and release quality. Participate actively in code reviews, providing thoughtful feedback on architecture, implementation, performance, and maintainability.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Backend, and other engineering teams to translate requirements into robust technical designs. Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, promote clean coding practices and engineering excellence, and contribute to technical discussions and long-term mobile engineering strategy.
**Requirements:**
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 5–8 years of professional software, frontend, or mobile engineering experience. 2+ years of hands-on production experience building React Native applications. Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript with deep understanding of React Native fundamentals. Strong understanding of mobile application architecture, rendering, state management, and performance optimization. Hands-on experience optimizing React Native applications including render cycles, memory usage, and responsiveness. Experience troubleshooting complex React Native issues across JavaScript and native layers. Experience with modern React Native libraries (FlashList, React Native Reanimated, React Native Gesture Handler, Expo). Proficiency with debugging and profiling tools (Flipper, React DevTools, Chrome DevTools). Familiarity with iOS and Android platform fundamentals and ability to investigate platform-specific issues. Experience with TurboModules and writing native iOS/Android code. Strong problem-solving skills with bias toward performance, quality, and customer experience. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
**Preferred:** Experience building and scaling consumer-facing mobile applications with large customer bases. Deep understanding of React Native performance profiling and optimization. Experience with New React Native Architecture (JSI, Fabric, TurboModules). Experience developing native modules or integrating third-party native SDKs. Experience with mobile CI/CD, automated releases, and Expo Application Services (EAS). Experience with mobile observability, crash reporting, and performance monitoring. Experience in e-commerce, retail, or high-scale consumer applications. Experience mentoring engineers and driving mobile engineering standards.
