Salary: CAD 150,000 - 180,000 / annual
Xanadu is building quantum computers to solve some of the world's most challenging problems. As a Software Developer on the Backend team, you'll help build and scale the PennyLane.ai ecosystem—an open-source framework for quantum machine learning, quantum computing, and quantum chemistry. No quantum experience required; you'll learn on the job.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build, scale, document, and maintain products within the PennyLane.ai ecosystem
- Design and implement robust APIs for internal/external services and web frontends
- Work with product owners to derive requirements and ensure technical feasibility
- Maintain high-quality production code through automated testing and code review
- Own significant domain areas, exploring and advocating for new technologies
- Lead the design of large-scale, fault-tolerant, distributed systems
- Develop and improve engineering processes for developer efficiency and consistent delivery
- Mentor developers and foster a culture of continuous technical growth
Required qualifications:
- BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Math, or related field
- 6+ years of professional software development experience (Senior level)
- Strong knowledge of Python, Go, or Rust
- Proficiency in PostgreSQL and SQL optimization
- Experience with Docker, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud deployment (AWS/Google Cloud)
- Strong communication skills and product-minded approach
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Preferred qualifications:
- Hands-on experience building large, fault-tolerant, distributed systems at scale
- Advanced knowledge of distributed system patterns and performance tuning
- Experience managing deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions, Docker, Terraform)
- Proficiency with modern web frameworks (NextJS/React)
- Technical lead experience or oversight of complex, multi-stakeholder projects
- Track record of mentoring developers
Compensation: CAD 150,000–180,000 base salary for senior candidates, plus equity and benefits.
