Okta is seeking an experienced Software Architect to join the Onboarding and Lifecycle Management (LCM) Platform team. This role focuses on enhancing and managing services for importing, syncing, and provisioning identities and access policies—users, groups, roles, and entitlements—that allow customers to link and enhance their business processes with Okta's identity management product. You will be a hands-on expert developer in Java with deep technical expertise in building high-quality, secure, and performant applications and frameworks. The ideal candidate has demonstrable experience leading technical projects involving 20+ engineers across multiple workstreams and is excited by cutting-edge security and identity management challenges. You will be a thought leader who can drive technical strategy, mentor other engineers, and act as a force multiplier—creating frameworks and solutions that enable other teams to be more productive. Key responsibilities include: - Leading architectural design and implementation of new features and services with focus on scalability, performance, and security - Collaborating with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to define technical strategy and prototype software components - Directly overseeing and coordinating complex technical initiatives involving 20+ engineers across sub-teams - Driving a culture of engineering excellence through robust testing, monitoring, and operational excellence - Partnering with Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams on scoping and deployment - Staying current with industry trends in identity, security, and distributed systems Required qualifications: - 15+ years of software development in Java, with significant experience in Hibernate and Spring Boot - Deep understanding of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, and object-oriented principles - 4+ years automating and deploying large-scale production services in AWS, GCP, or similar cloud platforms - Deep understanding of infrastructure technologies: caching, stream processing, resilient architectures - Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or GraphDB) - Strong communication skills and ability to work across distributed teams - Proven ability to lead and mentor junior engineers - B.E. in Computer Science or equivalent Nice-to-have skills include server-side technologies (caching, asynchronous processing, multi-threading), security best practices and threat modeling, and knowledge of IAM protocols (OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, SCIM).
