Taskrabbit is a marketplace platform connecting people with Taskers for everyday home services like furniture assembly, handyman work, and moving help. The company is owned by IKEA and operates across the US and EU with a distributed, hybrid workforce. As a Software Architect, you'll be embedded within Taskrabbit's Architecture Team, driving platform modernization efforts aligned with the company's Target State Architecture (TSA). This is a hands-on, results-oriented role—not a consultative position. You'll partner directly with engineering teams across the platform to accelerate their modernization work, serving as a subject matter expert on platform modernization practices. Key responsibilities include: - Representing the Architecture team to assigned engineering squads, driving TSA-aligned modernization projects - Applying AI tooling and Spec-Driven Development (SDD) practices to help teams build new components - Pairing directly with engineers and technical leads to unblock work and transfer architectural patterns into practice - Advising on migration approach, sequencing, and risk management - Advocating for TSA-aligned solutions in technical discussions and design reviews - Writing and reviewing Technical Design Documents (TDDs) and RFCs, coaching authors to strengthen proposals - Collaborating with a small team of architects to maintain consistency across modernization efforts - Defining standards for tooling, coding, processes, AI usage, and documentation You'll need 8+ years of professional software development experience with a primary focus on building and scaling backend systems. Distributed systems and event-driven architecture experience is essential. TypeScript/Node.js is preferred, though strong experience with Java, .NET, or similar strongly typed languages is acceptable. You should have hands-on experience with containerization and containerized application deployment. Bonus skills include Kubernetes, NestJS, Helm charts, Spec-Driven Development tools (SpecKit, OpenSpec, Intent, Kiro), ArgoCD, Datadog, and contract-first design using OpenAPI and AsyncAPI. The role requires excellent communication skills, ability to build consensus in technical discussions, comfort pairing directly with engineers, and willingness to be visible and vocal in architecture meetings. This is a hybrid position requiring 2 days in office at the San Francisco hub (130 Sutter St) every Tuesday and Wednesday.
